Hi, I’m Sofia Gomez

My name is Sofia Gomez and im originally from a small city in the north of mexico called Torreon, Coahuila. I am currently a PhD student in Dr. McMurray’s lab at CU Anschutz. Throughtout my journey I have become an advocate for increasing diveristy in STEM and higher education especially for Latino populations.

I hope to make higher education and research more accessible to people like me and others—and working on science communication.

My career goal is to become a professor and researcher, and work on improving DEI in higher education. I am constantly trying to laern more about science and pedagogy. In my past I have worked on some projects regarding DEI and advocacy, like my S.T.E.M loteria I made in undegrad (feel free to check it out).

Apart from being a scientist, I like to read, write, swim, paint—and like anyone in colorado hiking and being outside!
